"Basketball" by Emma Bergeron

Basketball is a team sport where the objective is to throw a ball through a basket and get the most amount of points, while following a set of rules.  In a game you can score either a field goal (two points) or a shot at the three-point line (three points).  Five players play at the same time.  The positions are center, power forward, point guard and shooting guard.  Primarily the center and power forward are the tallest people on the court because their primary position is under the basket.

Basketball was invented by James Naismith, a Canadian physical education teacher. The first basketball game was played using a soccer ball and two peach baskets. The NBA was created on June 6th 1946. The Boston Celtics have the won the most NBA titles (17).

This is my basketball court.  This court was made in 2010 for my birthday. I have played basketball since I was in kindergarten.  I played on school teams up until fifth grade when I started AAU (Amateur Athletics Union).  I played with The Blizzards which was team based out of Enfield New Hampshire, then my 7th grade year I started playing for Jammers AAU in Hanover New Hampshire.

I did not plan on playing basketball.  My whole family had played hockey including my older siblings.  I tried skating for three years but still could not with a crate, so my family tried to look for another sport for me to play.  My older cousin, Abby, was a basketball player and encouraged me to start playing.  My cousin is my role model when it comes to basketball.  She holds the record for the most three pointers made on varsity for boys and girls at Lebanon High School.

I now am in high school and still playing.  I played for my high school JV team and went back to Blizzards for AAU this year.  I am a point guard and occasionally a shooting guard.  I love the game of basketball and hope to keep playing for many years to come.
