"The Woods" by Mariah Williams

The sun was starting to set and the birds were chirping. It was very warm out. I wanted to see what a little bird would see if it was standing on the ground so I laid on the ground and took this picture. There was a bit windy outside. It was very peaceful and quiet out there. There wasn’t any noise from cars or people just the birds and the wind and the leave crunching under your feet.

     

I wanted to know what a small animal would see when it was walking around the woods. I found this downed tree that was hallowed out. It is by my neighbor’s fence that they have sheep inside the fence. I don’t know exactly what hollowed out the tree but it looks cool from the ground level.

If I were a squirrel climbing a tree this is what I would see. I really like how it looks like the spokes on a tire or a wooden wagon wheel. The tree was a bit off the snowmobile trail near my house but it looked like a good tree to take a picture of from a point of view we often overlook. The tree has many different textures from the bark to the pine needles and branches.

There are many lines of perspective. They are the branches of the tree. They lead you to the tree that is in the second third. There is textural contrast between the bark and the needles of the tree and then the sky. There is also contrast with the color because the sky is a light blue and the tree is brown and dark green. The tree also has a bit of a bend in it up in the top third.

What the heck is that?! Well it is simply a tree with a face. What? How is that possible? Honestly I don’t know how that happened but it definitely gets you thinking about what may have happened to cause it to appear this way. No it is not photo shopped it is truly looks like that out in the woods. It’s amazing some of the things you will find in the woods. I was just walking and taking pictures when I came across this tree and just had to take a picture of it. It looks like it is either excited or terrified.

So regal like isn’t she? Yup that’s my little sister. She wanted to help me take pictures so she stood on those rocks and started looking for something for me to take a picture of and then I saw her from a distance standing like this and well took a picture of her. No I did not tell her to do this but she did and it looks like she is being regal or powerful looking for something to happen or something. She didn’t know I was going to take her picture until after I took it and she liked it a lot. I like how you have the tree almost in the middle and in the front and then you have her and you can see the trees behind her and if you look you can even see the mountains way behind her.
